Cox Barton County Hospital recognized for effective ER transfer communication

Cox Barton County Hospital has once again been recognized as one of the Top Performing Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) by Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) for achieving 100 percent compliance in Emergency Department Transfer Communication (EDTC) criteria.

 EDTC criteria focuses on the following:

·  documentation of all patient procedures, tests and findings.

·  communication between the ER physician and receiving physician, including the need for transfer.

·  documentation of medications, past medical history, medications given in the ED, and any patient impairments present.

“To be recognized for effective communication between transfer facilities is quite an honor,” said Dr. Jeremy Sturgell, medical director of Cox Barton County Hospital’s Emergency Department. “For patients who require a higher level of care, there can be a significant amount of distance between transfer facilities, so that is why stabilization and effective communication are so important to achieve the best patient outcomes.”

For the third quarter of 2020, Cox Barton County achieved 100% compliance in the ALL EDTC composite score, putting them in the top performers list of CAHs in Missouri and the nation. Since the first quarter of 2019, Cox Barton County has achieved this recognition seven times.
