Residents Gabriela Cox, DO, MS Gabriela Cox, DO, MS Now, this is a story all about howMy life got flipped upside downAnd I'd like to take a minuteJust sit right thereI'll tell you how I became a resident at CoxHealth CareIn east South Carolina born and raisedOut in Sumter was where I spent most of my daysDreamin’ of being a Kangaroo at three,I didn’t know what I wanted to doYears went by and I became the eldest of threeIn high school, I took classes in A&PDr. Williams put this idea inside my headI said I am moving to Mercer U to pursue premedBut seriously, to know me well, you need to know about my family. I have two wonderfully crazy younger sisters. My mom is an Air Force brat and breast cancer survivor, and my dad is the adopted son of British and American missionaries to India. My paternal grandmother and my mom are two women at the top of a long list of family and friends that have shown me the beautiful power of caring communities. They are the ones who laid the groundwork for my life in medicine. I have always known that I wanted my life's work to be spent serving and building up my community. Through a series of fascinating classes and fantastic teachers, I discovered that family medicine was the best way I could fulfill my calling. The journey to residency has definitely had its challenges. I know the life of a family medicine doctor is not easy or glamorous, but I'm encouraged by the words of 1 Peter 5:10: "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."I am married to Christopher, the love of my life, and together we have two feline rascals named Amelia and Henry. We love hiking and kayaking together, and we want to start spelunking more, now that we've heard about all of the caves in Missouri! I love to bake, run and play piano. When I have time, I'm also learning the violin and Spanish.
