I grew up with my four siblings in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. After completing my high school education at Academia Los Pinares, I moved to St. Louis for my undergraduate education. I completed my degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Finance at Washington University in St. Louis, with the thought that I would pursue a career in engineering working for a startup. However, I got involved doing research with physician scientists and changed course to pursue an MD/PhD program at Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology.

I became interested in Family Medicine during the last year of my medical education. As I completed my medical school courses, I found that I had an interest in several areas of medicine, including women’s health, pediatrics and mental health services. I believe that Family Medicine will provide the training and flexibility to pursue all of those interests.

I chose to come to Cox Health for several reasons. First, the culture within the program was a good fit. I found faculty and residents that cared not only for the well-being of their patients, but also for the well-being of their colleagues and their families. Second, I believe it is a program that will provide great training in full-spectrum family medicine, providing the flexibility to pursue different career paths in the future. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it felt like this would be a great place to grow personally and with my family.

I am married to my wonderful wife, Morgan, and have two young kids, Noah Santiago and Mia Elisabeth. Most of our free time is spent caring for our kids, but we do enjoying going on walks, playing at the park and exploring museums. My wife and I also enjoy going to movies together, while I enjoy playing and watching sports, particularly soccer.
