Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program Overview

In the CoxHealth Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program, you will be paid for hands-on training in the classroom and real-world experience during clinical rotations. This program will provide instruction for basic patient care under the direction and supervision of a clinical educator and nursing staff. During clinical rotations, you may perform duties such as taking vitals, bathing, dressing, moving patients, changing linens, and other duties within the scope of practice as directed. While in clinical settings, you will obtain information on patient conditions as requested by nursing staff or the clinical educator and report any changes in patient condition.

Who May Apply

• Individuals over the age of 18
• Preferred high school diploma or equivalent
• Desire to provide excellent patient care

How It Works

• Program length: 90 days, will then be moved into the Nurse Assistant I position on your hired unit.
• Schedule: The first two weeks, regardless of your hired shift or status, will be Monday through Thursday, day shift. Once the initial training is complete following your first two weeks in the position, you will move to your hired shift/hours (excluding weekend option). If being hired for weekend option, you will move to weekend option status once your first 90 days is complete and will begin earning weekend option differential at that time.
  • Classroom days: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Instructor taught classes covering a variety of topics.
  • Clinical days: TBD by Nurse Manager of your Unit.
    • Working with a preceptor on a Nursing Floor.
• Status: Part time, Full Time, Weekend Option, Benefits eligible.
• When I can apply: Apply anytime. The CoxHealth Recruitment team will reach out and let you know the when the next session will begin. Sessions occur multiple times throughout the year.

Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program Details

• Program length: 90 days, will then be promoted to the Nurse Assistant I position on your hired unit.  
• Schedule: Once the initial training is complete following your first three weeks in the position, you will move to your hired shift/hours (excluding weekend option. If being hired for weekend option, you will move to weekend option status once your first 90 days is complete and will begin earning weekend option differential at that time).  
• First & Second Week 
  • Days: Tuesday to Friday  
  • Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm 
  • Instructor taught classes covering a variety of topics 
• Third Week 
  • Days: Tuesday to Thursday  
  • Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm 
  • Instructor taught classes covering a variety of topics 
  • Clinical days: TBD by Nurse Manager for your Unit.  
• Working with a preceptor on a Nursing Floor 
• Status: Full Time, Part time after completion of the program, Weekend Option after completion of the program, Benefits eligible
